لا الٰہ الا اللہ وہ کلمہ توحید ہے جو انسان کو غیر اللہ کی بندگی سے نکال کر اکیلے اللہ تعالیٰ کو معبودِ برحق تسلیم کرواتا ہے۔ یہ دین اسلام کا پہلا سبق ہے۔ اس کے اقرار کا مطلب یہ ہے کہ اب انسان کی ساری زندگی صرف اللہ تعالیٰ کی بندگی (مکمل اطاعت) میں گزرے گی۔ اسکی نماز، اسکا روزہ، اسکے تمام معاملات، ہر فعل یہ گواہی دے گا کہ الٰہ صرف اللہ تعالیٰ کی ذات ہے۔ اطاعت و بندگی صرف اسی عرشِ عظیم کے مالک کے لائق ہے۔ اس کے علاوہ کوئی حاکم اور الٰہ نہیں ہے، اسکے دین کے خلاف ہر حکم ہر قانون پاؤں تلے روند دیے

اللہ تعالیٰ کی عبادت ہی وہ اصل اور بنیادی مسئلہ ہے جس پر انسان کی بقاء اور وجود کا دارومدار ہے۔ ہر نبی نے آغاز رسالت میں اسی اہم مسئلہ کو اپنی دعوت کا محورومرکز بنایا اور کہا ’’ لوگو! گواہی دو کہ اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبعود نہیں‘‘۔ پھر اسی دعوت پر اپنی تمام قوت صرف کر دی کہ انسانوں کو ان کے حقیقی پروردگار سے متعارف کرایا جائے اور انہیں صرف اسی کی بندگی کی راہ دکھلائی جائے۔
یہی تو سب سے بڑا قضیہ ہے جس کے حل پر انسانی فلاح کا
Terrorism and Islam
This question arises in the minds of the people, during any discussion on religion or world affairs. Muslim stereotypes are perpetuated in every form of the media accompanied by gross misinformation about Islam and Muslims. In fact, such misinformation and false propaganda often leads to discrimination and acts of violence against Muslims.
Oxford Dictionary describes the word terrorism as: 'the use of violent actions in order to achieve political aims or to force a government to act.' The word terrorism was first coined in 1790's during the French Revolution. The years 1793 and 1794 were called as 'The Reign of Terror' or 'Years of Terror.'
During these years Maximilin Robespierre guillotined thousands of innocents. He arrested more than 500,000 out of which he executed 40,000. More than 200,000 were deported and more than 200,000 were starved and tortured to death in the prisons.
Today there is a statement, which is being repeatedly bombarded, especially in the western media and that statement is, 'All Muslims are not Terrorist, but all Terrorist are Muslims.' But here are the historical records on terrorist attacks that speak a different picture:
19th century – We hardly find any terrorist attacks done by Muslims.
1881 – Tsar Alexander was assassinated in a Bomb Blast. He was traveling in a bulletproof carriage in St. Pietersburg Street. The first bomb kills innocent 21 bystanders. The second bomb killed him while he was stepping out of the car. He was killed by Ignacy Hryniewiecki. He was Anarchists.
1886 – Bomb Blast at Haymarket Square, Chicago, during a labour rally. 12 people were killed; one among them was a policeman. Seven policemen were injured and they died in the hospital. The people responsible were 8 Anarchists all of them were non-Muslims.
6 September 1901 – The US President, William McKinley, was shot twice by an Anarchist named Leon Czolgosz. He was a non-Muslim.
1 October 1910 – Bomb blast in Los Angeles at Times newspaper building. 21 were killed. The blast was done by 2 Christians named James and Joseph. They were union leaders.
28 June 1914 – Archduke of Austria and his wife were assassinated which precipitated the World War I. The members of Young Bosnia assassinated them - most of them were Serbs. They were non-Muslims.
16 April 1925 – Bomb Blast in St. Nedelya Church in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. 10,050 were killed and 500 injured. This was the biggest terrorist attack that was done on the soil of Bulgaria. The Bulgarian Communist Party did it. They were non-Muslims.
9 October 1934 – King Alexander I of Yugoslavia was assassinated by a gunman by the name of Vlada Georgieff. He was a non-Muslim.
1 May 1961 – First US plane to be hijacked was not done by a Muslim. It was done by Ramierez Ortiz.
28 August 1968 – The US Ambassador to Guatemala was assassinated by a non-Muslim.
30 July 1969 – The US Ambassador to Japan was knifed by a Japanese non-Muslim.
3 September 1969 – US Ambassador to Brazil was kidnapped by a non-Muslim.
19 April 1995 - The famous attack of the Oklahoma Bombing in which a truck loaded with bombs ran into the federal building of Oklahoma, in which 166 were killed and 100 were injured. Initially in the press it came as 'Middle East Conspiracy'. Later on they came to know that it was done by two Christians named Timothy and Terry.
After World War II from 1941 to 1948, the Jewish Terrorists conducted 259 terrorist attacks.
22 July 1946 – The famous bombing of King David Hotel was conducted under the leadership of Menachem Begin. 91 were killed, out of which 28 were British, 41 Arabs, 17 Jews and 5 others. The Ignun group dressed up as Arabs to show as though the Muslims did this bombing. Menachem Begin was called terrorist number one by the British government. Later on after a few years Menachem Begin the terrorist number one became the Prime Minister of Israel & got a Noble Prize for Peace. Imagine a person who was a terrorist number getting a Noble Prize for Peace. Menachem Begin and others were fighting to get a Jewish state. Before 1945 Israel did not exist in the World Map. These Jewish group were fighting for a Jewish state and later on with the power they kick the Palestinian out and now the same people are calling the same Palestinian who are fighting for a more just cause for getting their land back. And the Israelis label them today as Terrorist.
Hitler killed 6 million Jews. The Palestinians welcome the Jews. Later on the Jews kick the Palestinians out of their own land and when the Palestinians are fighting to get their land back they are labeled as Terrorists. It is like I welcome a stranger in my house. After a few days that person throws me out of my house and when I shout out side my house that I want my house back, you call me a Terrorist.
In Germany from 1968 – 1992, Baader Meinhoff Gang killed several innocent human beings.
In Italy, Red Brigades kidnapped and killed Aldo Moro, the former Prime Minister of Italy.
20 March 1995 - Aum Shinrikyo a Buddhist Cult used Nerve Gas in the Tokyo Subway in which 12 people were killed and 5700 were wounded and injured.
IRA (The Irish Republican Army)
In UK since hundred years IRA (The Irish Republican Army) is conducting Terrorist attacks against UK. They are Catholics. But are never called as Catholic Terrorist. In 1972 IRA conducted 3 bomb blasts. In the first blast 7 were killed, in second blast 11 were killed and in the third 9 were killed.
In 1974 IRA conducted two bomb blasts. First at Guildford Pub in which 5 were killed and 44 injured; second at the Birmingham Pub which killed 21 and injured 182.
In 1996 IRA conducted bomb blast in London in which 2 persons were killed and more than were 100 injured. In the same year IRA conducted bomb blast in Manchester shopping center in which 206 people were injured.
On 1 August, 1998, the 'Banbridge' bomb blast took place. The IRA planted 500 pound of bomb, which was loaded in a car where 35 people were injured.
On 15 August, 1998, 'Omagh' bomb blast took place. IRA planted 500 pound of bomb in a car where 29 people were killed and 330 injured.
On the 4 March, 2001, the BBC was bombed by IRA.
The IRA is never called as Catholic Terrorist. Today the UK government is more afraid of Muslim terrorist. Today Tony Blair is more afraid of the 'Muslim terrorists' than IRA who is conducting terrorist attacks for more than a hundred years. Why?
In Spain and France ETA conducted 36 terrorist attacks. In Africa there are many terrorist organisations. But the most notorious is the 'Lord's Salvation Army'; a Christian terrorist organisation in Uganda. They train young childrens to commit terrorist attacks.
In Sri Lanka, the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam) is the most notorious. It is the most violent terrorist organisation in the world. They are experts in suicide bombings and they even train children to take part in suicide bombings.
Normally people know Palestinian suicide bombings, Iranian suicide bombing, but they don't know that LITTE are people who have popularized to suicide bombings. The LTTE i.e. Tamil tigers, they are Hindus.
In India majority of the terrorist attacks are talked about the Kashmiri militants. In India there are terrorist organization belonging to almost all different religions. We have Sikh terrorist, the 'Bhindranwala' in Punjab. If you go to South Asian Terrorism portal run by Non-Muslims, and if you see the list of terrorist attacks done by all the people, you will find the Muslims in a minority. But that is never highlighted in the media.
On 5 June, 1984, the Indian Security Forces took over the Golden Temple in which 100 people were killed. In retaliation on 31 October, 1984, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her Sikh security guard. In Tripura there are Christian terrorist organizations called ATTF (All Tripura Tiger Force) and NLFT (National Liberation Front of Tripura). On the 2 October, 44 Hindus were killed by these Christian terrorists.
In Assam we have ULFA (United Liberation Front of Assam). ULFA in the 16 years from 1990 to 2006 has conducted successfully 749 confirmed terrorist attacks. The ULFA will put the Kashmiri militants to shame. But in the newspapers we only hear of Kashmiri militant. Why? The ULFA are trained to kill the Muslims, they are Hindus. How many times do we hear about them?
The maximum terrorist attacks, which have been done in India, are done by the Maoists. Only in Nepal, in the past 7 years they have conducted 99 terrorist attacks. According to the Indian Government out of 600 districts in India Maoists are present in 150 districts of India. They have done terrorist attacks in one-third part of India. The Maoists are the biggest dangers to India but yet the Indian Government is afraid of the Muslim terrorist. Why? The reason is George Bush. The Times of India, edition dated 9 September, 2006, reported that 875 rockets and 30 launchers were confiscated by the police. It is the biggest haul in the history of India that the government has confiscated.
From all these things we can surely say that Terrorism is not a Muslim Monopoly. Not a Muslim monopoly, it is not even a specialty of the Muslims. It is not even encouraged by Islam. The Holy Qur'an says in Sura Maidah, chp.5, verse.32, that "If anyone kills any human being, except as a punishment for murder or creating mischief in the land, it will as though he had killed the entire humanity". Most of the religions don't preach that you should kill innocent human being. Terrorism is not the monopoly of any religion.
The human being who has killed the maximum people is Adolf Hitler. Hitler incinerated 6 million Jews. He was Christian. Joseph Stalin (Uncle Joe) killed 20 million human beings; including 14.5 million were starved to death. Mao Tse Tsung of China killed 14 to 20 million human beings. He was Non Muslim. Benito Mussolini of Italy killed 400,000 human beings. Maximilin Robespierre during the French revolution starved and tortured 200,000 people to death and executed 40,000 people. Ashoka in one battle of Kalinga alone killed more than 100,000 people. He was a Hindu. Saddam Hussein killed a few 100 thousands people. But the embargo put by George Bush and the USA alone killed more than half a million Iraqi children. In Indonesia, Muhammad Suharto killed 500,000 people.
This is nothing compared to Hitler or uncle Joe nothing compare to Mao TSE sung each individual will put the Muslims to shame. I am not trying to say that these individual they were religious. If they would have religious then they would not have committed such acts. But yet we find in the international media that the Muslims are called as fundamentalist, extremists and terrorists. The American Revolution took place in the 19th century. According to the British Government the terrorist No. 1 that time was Benjamin Franklin and George Washington.

The President of Venezuela, 'Hugo Chavez' says, 'The biggest terrorist in the world is George bush'.
The President Elect of Bolivia, 'Evo Morales', he says that George Bush is a terrorist.
Famous singer and activist of America, Harry Bellefonte says that the biggest terrorist in the world is George Bush.
An MP in UK by the name of George Galloway he said, 'The blood that is on the hands of George Bush and Tony Blair is much more than the bombers who have done bombing in London. It will be justified that a suicide bomber goes and kill Tony Blair without injuring any other human being. This is type of suicide bombing will be justified'.
Former Chief Minister of West Bengal, Jyoti Basu said, 'The biggest terrorist in the world is George Bush'.
Noble prize winner for Peace, Betty Williams said, 'I would love to kill George Bush'.
Solution to terrorism
Politicians should be honest and just and should not do wrong things for the vote bank.
Innocent Indian citizens should not be instigated by the politicians and kill other human beings. Police should be upright and just and protect the innocent. They should not be ploy of the politicians. I know that there are times that they can be transferred. But if every policeman in India is honest, the new policemen who are transferred will also be honest. So what will the politicians do?
People should not take the law in their hand and kill other human being.
Mahatma Gandhi said, " If India has to improve it should be ruled by a dictator as honest and upright as Hadrat Umar (The Caliph of Islam). Dr. Joseph Adam Pearson said, 'People who worry that nuclear weaponry will one day fall in the hands of the Arabs, they fail to realize that the Islamic bomb has already been dropped, it fell the day Prophet MUHAMMED (pbuh) was born'.

Every muslim is worried to think that why this beloved Ummah of Prophet Mohammd peace be upon him is so helpless today? Why Muslims have lost their respect? Why disbelievers have overcome the believers? When muslims believes that There is no God but Allah, and Prophet Mohammad peace be upon him is the last and final messanger of Allah.

This Kalma was the reason of Islamic Revolution which came in the land of Arab 1400 years ago. This Kalma was the golden secret of success of muslims of that time. They were together regardless of any difference of race colour and language. They spread the light of teachings of ALLAH and His Messanger Prophet Mohammad peace be upon him around the world. Today we also recite this kalma but we are unable to resist slavery of Kufar. To know the reason we have to understand first the meaning of Kalma Tayabba that is "There is no God but Allah, and Prophet Mohammad peace be upon him is the messanger of God." Without understanding the meaning of this Kalma no one can claim to be a true believer but after repeating this Kalma he is entered in Islam.

If fail to keep a watch on self,

With distraction unbound is fraught:
If it wonʹt spread like rays of morn,
It means such talk has value naught!
Allah says in Quran, Chapter 49, Al Hujrat, Verse 14
"The wandering Arabs say: We believe. Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Ye believe not, but rather say "We submit," for the faith hath not yet entered into your hearts."
Only repeating the Kalma by tongue does not complete the faith but acting upon this Kalma by heart is the sign of complete faith. And when someone understand the meaning of this Kalma, he tries to submit his total will to the will of God. When someone submits his will to the will of God he has no fear of anyone other than God. He does not bow in front of anyone else. He asks only Allah for help.
To understand the real meaning of Kalma we should know first that there are two parts of Kalma Tayyaba.
1- There is no God but Allah
2- Mohammad peace be upon him is the messanger of Allah
As usual the meaning of first part is taken as that just not worship the idols, sun and stars. But actually this part has vast meaning. For someone to believe in the onnenss of Allah it is necessary to submit his total will to the will of God.
Allah says in Quran, Chapter 25, Al Furqan, Verse 43
"Hast thou seen him who chooseth for his god his own lust? Wouldst thou then be guardian over him?"
Who chooseth for his god his own lust is like that a man who worship himself. (i.e is follow the orders of his own will). We should see on ourselves that do we follow the orders of Allah in every matter or follow the orders of our own will? If someone is doing this he can not claims to be true believer unless he seeks complete guidance from the word of God (Quran). For such kind of person there is a need to understand the meaning of Kalma. For jews and christians Allah says in Quran, Chapter 9, Al Tauba, Verse 31
"They have taken as lords beside Allah their rabbis and their monks and the Messiah son of Mary, when they were bidden to worship only One God."
Today, do we not doing the same thing as jews and christians did? Do we not commit shirk by giving Authority of making Laws to our Parliment? This shirk damages our Tauheed (i.e to believe in onness of Allah) directly.
Allah says in Quran, Chapter 12, Yusuf, Verse 67
"Lo! the decision rests with Allah only."
Allah says in Quran, Chapter 4, Al Nisa, Verse 48
"Lo! Allah forgiveth not that a partner should be ascribed unto Him. He forgiveth (all) save that to whom He will."
The first part of kalma demands from us to believe in that Allah is enough for us. No Super Power can harm us without the permission of Supreme Power (i.e Allah). He is alone and has no partners.
The second part of Kalma is that "Mohammad peace be upon him is the messanger of Allah." Whoever claims to be a muslim he has to follow the teachings of Prophet Mohammad peace be upon him also. Because Prophet Mohammad peace be upon him is the messanger of Allah.
Allah says in Quran, Chapter 53, Al Najam, Verse 3,4
"Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired,"
The book Quran was revealed by Almighty God on Prophet Mohammad peace be upon him for the guidance of humanity. When we make it compulsory to follow the teachings of Prophet Mohammd peace be upon him on ourselves in every matter, then there is no need of Adam Smith for the guidance in our Economical issues or to listen the Karl Marx.The second part of Kalma demands from us to follow Prophet Mohammad peace be upon him in every dispute.
This is our first obligation to implement the Economical, Judiciary and Political System of Prophet Mohammad peace be upon him in our society. This is our duty to spread this message to the other people. If we do not so, we will be sinful in the sight of Allah.
Allah says in Quran, Chapter 59, Al Hashar, Verse 7
"When the Prophet (SAWS) gives you something, take it and when he refrains you from anything, keep yourselves away from it."
Where Prophet peace be upon him orders us to do something we should do it and where Prophet peace be upon him refrains us from anything, we should keep ourselves away from it.
O Muslims! you have to feel the importance of this obligation to implement the laws of Sharia'a in your society. If you want to become succeed you have to obey the orders of Allah and Prophet Mohammad peace be upon him. You have to throw out the fear of anyone else from your hearts. Do strive with your wealth and lives in Allah's way. Allah's succour and Victory will come soon Insha'allah. Allah will sent down the angels for your help as he sent his angels in the battlefield of Badar. We have to conquer the world. We have to spread the message of peace throught the world. We have to make this earth peaceful land for everyone. We have to spread the message of Islam.

The Process of an Islamic Revolution
On a deeper level, it should be obvious to all believers that the creation of Pakistan was in direct response to our firm and solemn pledge to Almighty Allah (SWT) __ the pledge that, in case we succeed in gaining our much coveted freedom, we will establish the Islamic System of Social Justice in this country. During the movement for independence, we made public claims that we are going to create a model Islamic state, that we are going to show the entire world the true picture of Islam, and that we are going to demonstrate how the Islamic ideals of human freedom, equality, and fraternity work in real life.
What we have done during the last half century or so, however, is a different story altogether. We have utterly and completely failed to live up to our claims. We have done everything in this country except what we were supposed to. We have followed every path except the one we should have. Instead of worshipping Almighty Allah (SWT), we have been paying our humble homage to the goddess of wealth; instead of cultivating a sense of unity, we have chosen the path of provincial parochialism and religious sectarianism; and instead of establishing the Islamic System of Social Justice, we have let the demons of exploitation and repression run amok. We, the Pakistani Muslims, are hardly in a position to blame anyone but ourselves for our sorry state of affairs. Some of us, because of their position of authority or leadership, may have been more responsible than others, but none of us is totally free from guilt.
Under the present conditions, there is only one course of action that can lead to our salvation: Collective Repentance. What we mean by a collective repentance is that the final aim of the endeavors of a significant portion of Pakistani Muslims must undergo a radical change __ a change from their present preoccupation with the pursuit of this-worldly goals to a similar preoccupation with the fulfillment of their basic Islamic responsibilities. The prerequisite for any positive change in the present scenario is that an appreciable segment of our population must realize that obedience to the commandments of Almighty Allah (SWT) and Prophet Muhammad (SAW), propagation and dissemination of the teachings of the Qur´an and Hadith, and the struggle to establish the politico-socio-economic system as given by Islam are their fundamental and absolutely inescapable duties. All those who thus realize their Divinely ordained obligations must be welded together in the form of a disciplined and highly organized party or Hizbullah. The establishment of the envisioned Islamic state will be possible only through the efforts and sacrifices of such dedicated people.
Consider the necessity of establishing a Hizbullah from another perspective. Most of the problems tormenting the common man in Pakistan are caused by a widespread disregard for merit, lack of a moral and ethical dimension in the policy-making process, institutionalized plunder of national resources, shameless denial of basic necessities of life to the majority of the populace, total absence of accountability, and collapse of the administrative and legal structure. It is clear that no one can correct all this by any amount of minor adjustments and superficial reforms. So, what is the way out? Should we continue to allow ourselves to be fooled by the same old cheaters? Or should we let ourselves be robbed by some new ones? May be we should do nothing but wait for the arrival of a savior.
Of course, none of these are feasible ways of dealing with the mess that is called Pakistan. What we really need is a radical change in the entire politico-socio-economic structure, replacing this corrupt, decaying, and unfair system with the Islamic System of Social Justice. Such a system is to be based on the sovereignty of Almighty Allah (SWT), and the implementation of the injunctions of the Holy Qur´an and the Sunnah at all levels of the state, whether executive, judiciary, or legislature. What is being proposed here in effect is a modern, democratic, welfare state where the elimination of all forms of social discrimination, economic exploitation, and political repression will be the primary objectives of the government. Keeping in view the conditions prevailing currently in Pakistan, the implementation of such lofty ideals is impossible without a Revolution.
What do we mean by a Revolution? A Revolution can be defined as the bringing about of basic and radical changes in the social, political, or economic systems dominant in a given country. The most thorough revolution is one that involves transformation of all of these aspects of collective human existence. Although the term “Islamic Revolution” is rapidly becoming a hollow cliché due to its widespread abuse by politico-religious parties, the fact remains that such a revolution is our only hope.
We believe that, in view of the evolution of social thought during the last few hundred years or so, it is very much possible to change the entire system without resorting to any armed rebellion or terrorist activity. In contrast to the age of the Prophet (SAW), it has now become possible to replace one system by another through a non-violent and unarmed rebellion against the status quo. This idea is based on the simple fact that even the most secure and the most firmly established politico-socio-economic order will collapse when people refuse their cooperation and persist in their disobedience and defiance. Recent examples of the success of this Passive Resistance type of non-violent insurgency include the popular uprising in Iran against the Shah, the triumph of the “people power” against the Marcos dictatorship in the Philippines, and the anti-Communism movements in the former Soviet Union and East Europe.
However, before such a popular mass movement can be launched in order to bring about an Islamic Revolution, a disciplined and highly organized party or Hizbullah is needed to keep the whole movement on the right track, consisting of totally dedicated volunteers who have realized their Divinely ordained obligations and have consciously decided that they have to live and die for the sake of Islam. The Tanzeem-e-Islami is endeavoring for the establishment of precisely such a revolutionary group, its target primarily being Pakistan but it addresses Muslims living anywhere in the world.
Most of the Islamic movements have taken either to the bullet or to the ballet for establishing the Deen of Allah(SWT). The Tanzeem-e-Islami believes that an ideal Islamic state cannot be established by either of these methods, and we have to go back to the Seerah of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) for the guidance of the methodology of Iqamah Al-Deen. When we look at the Seerah, we find that the struggle of the Prophet (SAW) was revolutionary in nature. His struggle can be understood as having six phases. One phase naturally leads to the other. If we jump from one phase to the next without fulfilling the requirements of the former, we may not suceed. Following are the six phases of this struggle:
- Da´wah (Calling people to Islam and Iman)
- Tanzeem (Organization of those who respond)
- Training
- Passive Resistance
- Active Resistance
- Challenge and Conflict
In the revolution brought about by Prophet Muhammad (SAW), the final phase of Conflict took the form of an armed struggle against the status quo. Under the present conditions, however, there is no need for an armed struggle; indeed such a struggle is not likely to succeed. The state and government are now recognized as two different entities, and the right of the citizens to bring about a change in the government and the established system is now an accepted democratic right, as long as they do not indulge in violence or rebellion against the state.

The Return of the Islamic Khilafat
We believe that an explanation of that strange ‘obsession’ is located in Islam’s view of the End of History, and, in particular, in the prophecies in both the Bible and the Qur’an concerning Gog and Magog.
We respond to the questions, however, by reminding critics that modern political democracy originated in modern secular western civilization, and required the adoption of political secularism as the basis for the establishment of polity and State.
Political secularism, however, like all other applications of secularism, denied religion any significant role in the public order. This, in turn, facilitated the decline of religion and of absolute moral values, and, around the world, has led to the emergence of ever-changing secular values and, eventually, to an essentially godless way of life.
Let us recall that when the British colonized countries such as India they found Muslims with a political culture derived basically from Islam.
British colonial rule imposed European political secularism ‘at the point of the sword’ as the alternative to Islam. Both Hindus and Muslims eventually challenged the new European religion of ‘secularism’, and sought to restore and to preserve their own indigenous political culture.
This led eventually, and alarmingly so for the British, to an ominous political alliance of Muslims and Hindus in what was called the Khilafat Movement – a struggle to preserve the institution of the Islamic Caliphate located at the very heart of Muslim political culture. Gandhi himself forged the alliance with the Muslim Khilafat Movement since he, also, wanted to restore (for Hindus) indigenous Hindu political culture and a Hindu model of a State.
The Khilafat Movement threatened to topple the entire system of European political secularism and constitutional democracy that the colonial West was forcing upon the non-White world. And so a British strategy was devised, in collaboration with Mustafa Kamal's newly emerging secular Republic of Turkey, to abolish the Turkish Caliphate and, in so doing, to sabotage and to bring about the collapse of the Khilafat Movement with its alarming Hindu-Muslim alliance.
The strategy succeeded. The Caliphate was abolished in Turkey in March 1924. By the end of that same year the old Indian Muslim leadership, comprised of men who knew and lived Islam, went into irreversible decline. They were replaced by the secularly inclined ‘All India Muslim League’, led by men who neither knew nor lived Islam. They presided over the cleverly disguised passage from Islam as the basis of political culture, to the new European political secularism.
It was deceptively spirited in by way of religious nationalism, and emerged as a curious creature named ‘Muslim nationalism’. The passage from the one to the other was so cleverly disguised that it is still not discernible to many Muslims in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
The turbulent history of secular European constitutional democracy in the Muslim world cannot be understood without recognition of that effort at fundamental change in political culture from Islam to the European model of political secularism. Indeed the passage from the one to the other has not as yet been accomplished in any final way even in Pakistan or Turkey. Time and again the religious beliefs of the Muslim peoples in Africa, the Arab world, South and South-East Asia, etc., have impacted on politics in such wise that the West has been forced to continuously resort to devious means, including brute force and barbarism in present-day Iraq and Afghanistan, to thwart the effort to restore Islam as the basis of polity.
Will Muslim society be secularized and constitutional democracy finally established in the Muslim world? Or, will destiny witness the restoration of the Islamic Khilafat?
Before we attempt to answer that absolutely fascinating question which will eventually emerge at the very heart of political discourse in contemporary international affairs, let us briefly describe the Khilafat or the (Sunni) Islamic model of polity and State.
It would surely surprise some of our readers to learn that Islam has never claimed to be a new religion. Rather it has consistently proclaimed that it is the original religion of Abraham, Moses, David, Solomon, and Jesus (peace and blessings of Allah be upon them all).
It was therefore natural that Prophet Muhammad (s) should have preserved in the Islamic State of Madina the essential model of a polity and State that was established by the Prophet-Kings, David (s) and Solomon (s) in the Holy State of Israel. What was that model?
Firstly, political culture in Holy Israel tolerated no secular separation of politics from religion. In both David (s) and Solomon (s), the religious/spiritual head of the community (i.e., the Prophet), was also, himself, King or Head of State.
Secondly, the polity and State recognized God as Sovereign (al-Malik), and to Him belonged the Kingdom (al-Mulk), and hence Israel was the Kingdom of God on earth.
Thirdly, God’s authority and law were both supreme in this model of a State.
In the secular European model, on the other hand, sovereignty was taken away from God and vested in the polity and State. That was blasphemy (Shirk). God was further stripped of supreme authority and law and these, also, were vested in the people and the State, and were institutionalized in secular government (administration, judiciary and legislature).
That, also, was blasphemy (Shirk). The people not only assumed supreme authority and installed their own man-made law as supreme law, they even went on, and recklessly so, to make legally permissible that which God had Himself prohibited.
Such was the case, for example, with the Divine prohibition of ‘lending money on interest’, gambling and lottery, etc. The Qur’an has described all these efforts to ‘play God’ as blasphemy (Shirk), which is the one sin that Allah Most High has warned that He would never forgive. I guess that someone would respond by accusing God of being fundamentalist.
When a people turn away from God, as they most certainly do in political secularism and the secular State, the Qur’an has warned that they would eventually forget Him and would pay the price of forgetting themselves (i.e., their human status). Their conduct would eventually become worse than that of wild beasts. Prophet Muhammad prophesied that they would eventually engage in sexual intercourse in public like donkeys.
There is an abundance of evidence that mainstream society in this “progressive” modern age is heading down that road and is already approaching the fulfillment of the prophecy of roadside sex.
The Islamic Khilafat differs in no way whatsoever from the model of the Holy State of Israel except that Prophet Muhammad, the Prophet/Head of State, was recognized as Servant of Allah rather than King!
Prophet Muhammad (s) has prophesied that the Islamic Khilafat would be restored at that time when Jesus (s) returns. I believe that we may have to wait for less than 50 years to witness the return of Jesus (s) and the restoration of the Islamic model of a State (Khilafat).
